UCITS HFS Index breaks negative trend, up 0.50% in March 2016

After three down months the UCITS HFS Index broke its negative trend with gains of 0.50% in March 2016. The broad index started positively into the month with first week gains of 0.33%. After the performance came to a halt in week two (0.00%), week three saw the UCITS HFS Index rise another 0.13%. The last week and a half completed the come back with marginal gains of 0.03%. Of all funds tracked 66.76% reported gains in March 2016.

From a sub-strategy perspective eleven of the twelve strategies reported positive results in March, the top performers being Credit (1.50%), Fixed Income (0.90%) and Convertible (0.89%). While the latter posted its smallest weekly gain in the third week of the month, Credit and Fixed Income slowed down in the last one and half weeks of trading. The strong monthly result also helped Credit to turn positive for 2016 (0.05%). The only strategy in the red in March was CTA (-1.83%), having taken heavy losses in the first half of the month which it was not able to catch up again. Seven strategies remain negative for 2016, the worst performers being L/S Equity (-2.44%) and Global Macro (-2.42%). From a year to date perspective the broad UCITS HFS Index now stands at -0.73% in 2016.
